Some of our Amarc friends have inquired about the security situation for the upcoming AMARC9 conference in Amman, Jordan.

While absolutely total security is impossible, I am confident to say that a number of issues need to be explained for our potential visitors to Jordan.

Jordan, is a safe and secure in the region. The recent events in Lebanon have reconfirmed this fact as Lebanese civilians wishing to avoid the violence have been added to Palestinians and Iraqis who have found in this country a safe haven.

As outlined in a previous security brief, the Jordanian government has taken a number of security steps to be added to their highly efficient intelligence service including metal detectors at all hotels and other public places.

The current crisis in Lebanon is expected to end soon with a ceasefire. While this is not to say that it might not re occur most experts believe that a UN mandated cease fire will last for some time.

We are certain that Amarc members will have a pleasant and educational stay in Jordan. We will do everything we can to ensure their safety and we are sure participants will gain a much deeper understanding of the issues that are underlying the present conflict in the region. We hope to continue posting detailed security briefings as we approach the conference date.
